Bushcraft with CBA

Why not come down and play with wood and fire during our bushcraft sessions with one of our Hairy Experts!

Fast becoming a Cardigan Bay Active favourite, our bushcraft sessions are designed to give you the basic skills required to living in the outdoors. There is no better way to reconnect with nature and experience first-hand the skills which have helped man live with the elements for thousands of years.

We have many years of experience at looking at bushcraft from different perspectives.

These are where we are stopping on a canoe trip for a break and making a quick fire to boil coffee to spending days in one place practicing and honing skills for a more static life.

If you are looking at doing this as a way of getting a rounded introduction into outdoor living our taster session is perfect.

By the end of the session you will have a variety of useful things to keep you entertained during quiet times at home or out on a trip, with the current way of life during lock downs people are looking for fun things to do in their local area. Our introduction will give you some skills to practice whilst out and about.

We cover:

Introduction to different tools: knife, saw and axe.

How to use them safely, storage, maintenance, law in the uk.

We’ll show you how to start a fire and maintain it.

There are so many different ways to do this we could spend days looking at them all. So we have found it best to show and explain 4 or 5 methods depending upon what you would like to learn, we do this by going through ancient to modern, from rubbing sticks to mixing chemicals "but no lighters or matches". This will give you the ability to go away and practice different ways till you find your preferred method of showing off to light the BBQ.

  • bushcraft camping survival stag do
  • using strikers to make fire
  • Enjoying hot drink after making fire

Lighting a fire in the great outdoors comes with responsibility, so we explain how to do this safely and leave no trace.

Once we have used tools to process wood and made a fire it leads us nicely onto water purification and cooking on an open fire. This is the perfect time to enjoy a cuppa, but because its a bushcraft course you have mastered making a pot hanger to use to boil your water, at which point we find cooking a snack is always a winner.

I have found that in a few hours just the above can take up all the time, as its a lot more involved than just the little bit I have written, for example when going through the safe use of tools we often end up making a mallet each which will help to process wood for the fire.

There are so many other things to cover in bushcraft like shelters the list of things is endless. If there is specifics you would like to learn just let us know so we can make sure there is time to do it in the session.

Some people are just after a nice afternoon with the family doing an activity together our 3hr session will keep all the family happy during this time. If you are looking at learning more skills and delving deeper into the world of bushcraft we can offer day/s of entertainment and learning.
